Oh crap

GAIN: 4 POUNDS

Not really sure what to say about this, really. Apart from being EXTREMELY pissed off and confused - all I can wonder is how it happened. The only explanation I can think of is that all the rich pub food and sweets we bought at the Beamish museum have finally taken their toll after some kind of weird body-delay. Who knows? And who the hell cares.

So I guess after hitting a rocking 11 pound total weight-loss last week, I'm all the way back down to half a stone again. Great. The good times just keep on coming.....

26th Birthday!

Well, this is my first blog as a 26 year-old. And despite everyone's frequent cries of: "Oooh, you're getting old, now!" I don't feel remotely different. Kind of like losing weight, really.

Still - had an amazing time yesterday. Mum took me out for a healthy lunch (Piri piri chicken and plain rice) at a local pub, and then for a spot of shopping (humiliating and awful, don't even want to THINK about the dresses I couldn't fit into) followed by a makeover/photography session I booked for a Mother's Day present ages ago. So, that was fun, getting all my hair, nails and make-up done! Not so fun was looking like I was Mum's fat sister, as she posed in a sleek dress and heels. Certainly a kick up the arse for me, if anything.

Tonight was AMAZING. After Joel's revelation that we were going to see "The Lion King" at the Palace in December, he also revealed that we'd be going out for a meal tonight at San Carlo's, on Deansgate. After a slight drama where I found out the kind of clientele they welcome there (ie: footballers and WAGS) and had to beg an early finish from work for an emergency hair appointment - we finally made it. And I was REALLY good!

Starter: Fresh Oysters on ice

Main Course: King Prawns and clams in spaghetti, with a tomato and garlic sauce

Drinks: Diet Coke ALL night!

So at least no-one can say I didn't try!

Northumberland

LOSS: 3 AND A HALF POUNDS

Oh my god, you would not BELIEVE the fortnight I've had. As you may have deduced, I haven't been able to post in 2 weeks, and haven't even MADE it to Group to get weighed recently.
Well, I could ramble on and tell you all about it - but this is a Slimming Blog, not a Dear Diary. In summary:

  • Joel and I spent the 5th-7th of October in Northumberland on his birthday present break
  • I didn't go to Group on the 8th due to absolutely CRIPPLING period pains
  • I didn't go to Group on the 15th as Joel's Grandma died, so I had to leave work early to be with him and his family all day
  • The funeral was on the 19th

So, there you have it. From a wonderful trip and happiness, to death and human misery, it's been a rollercoaster of a fortnight.

Not much to be said about the funeral, really. It was heartbreakingly sad, as they all are. At the wake, the only food that was served was meat and potato pie - and everyone kept buying me vodka and Diet Cokes...... neither of which I could refuse. So it's fair to say, I gave that particular Friday a bit of a write-off.

But the Northumberland trip was simply WONDERFUL - everything I was hoping for, and more. 3 days spent in a beautiful, quiet inn, situated off a long and quiet road. All you could hear when you woke up was the odd sheep, and the air just smelt cleaner. And even better was the pub food.
Sadly, neither Joel or I could resist the allure of a cheeky dessert each night. And I felt like a little glass of Rose didn't go amiss, either. But the meals were INCREDIBLE.
The first evening, I had Duck breast in a Rosemary, orange and port sauce, with vegetables:

....... and the second evening I had a Goat's cheese salad, followed by a big juicy Surf and Turf with peppercorn sauce.

Yes, I took my eye of the ball. And yes, I probably shouldn't have ordered the secret bottle of champagne to be sent up to our room, as a birthday surprise for Joel. But dammit, it was great to spend a fun, enjoyable, romantic evening relaxing and drinking champagne in bed - and if that's not worth a few extra Syns, then I don't know what IS.

And that's what intially surprised me. Because, after a weekend of such gluttinous pleasures, a Star Week, and a pie-encumbered wake - the last thing I would've expected is a 3.5 pound loss. But then it hit me - Beamish. The living museum Joel and I spent 6 HOURS walking round on Saturday - that must be where I burnt it all off. God bless Body Magic!!

PS: Seriously, if you can, check out the Beamish Museum if you're ever in the North-East. It's incredible - about 300 acres filled with Georgian, Edwardian and Victorian people, buildings, decorations, food and sights. Absolutely amazing.

PPS: It's my 26th birthday tomorrow!!

RECIPE: King Prawns in Egg-Fried Rice

This is a BRILLIANT alternative to ordering a Chinese - and if, like me, you love prawns and seafood flavours, then this dish is the BOMB.

(DISCLAIMER: As I'm terrible at measurements, quantities etc.... I won't put any down. My recipes are always to serve 2 - just use your own common sense. If you make too much, freeze some for another day. If you make too little - learn for next time!)

YOU NEED:

King Prawns
Plain rice
1 egg
Store-bought oyster sauce

SYNS:

2

TO MAKE:

Cook your plain rice in a saucepan of boiling water for 10-15 mins (according to packet)
Meanwhile, whisk the egg in a jug, and fry in Fry Light, continually whisking to make Scrambled Egg.
Once completed, chop up the scrambled egg and egg to the rice, mixing in to create Egg-Fried Rice.
Keeping the Egg-Fried Rice in the saucepan over a Low heat - stir in the Oyster Sauce and gently heat up.
Meanwhile, fry the King Prawns in Fry Light until cooked. Mix in with the Rice and SERVE.

Food Market

LOSS: 1 POUND

Only got time for a short post, today - sadly. Have to rush off onto Skype pretty quickly, as I've just got back from Group. Pleased to report another pound's loss, taking my total up to 7 and a half, so far. Kind of surprised, given that Joel and I visited a Food Market in Manchester this weekend, and ended up consuming some very yummy Nutella pancakes, ostrich burgers, cocktails and very oily curries.

Ugh. I feel ashamed just looking at those, but - as with any occasion - it's very hard to regret any of it when we had such a nice time. I guess this is why I'm not too good at being a natural dieter - I just love food too damn much. And whilst Slimming World obviously advocates maintaining a healthier lifestyle and not "giving up" the food you like, it's sometimes hard to still enjoy a Nutella pancake, knowing it's going to equate to about 50 Syns.
